Orlando, Titusville, Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral Fishing Report 2/26/12

The fishing the last couple weeks has been absolutely insane!!! Last week we came across a monster school of redfish in the ocean, I'm talking a school of a couple thousand fish all ranging from 40-60 pounds.  The cobia were popping up all around the boat with the redfish.  Cobia fishing this March off of Port Canaveral is going to be insane, so make sure you plan a trip to target them. The inshore redfishing is blowing up also with multiple redfish over 40inches being caught with also some mid range slot fish.  The trout bite on a fly rod is still insane, 50-100 fish a day! The Orlando crowd strikes again!!! 1/26/12

This past month the fishing has been awesome here in Cocoa Beach, Titusville, Port Canaveral, and Mosquito Lagoon.  The redfish and sea trout bite has been very good on the flats with this weird winter, if you even call this a winter this year.  I had Joey and Karen from Orlando out on the boat the other day for redfish and trout and they tore up the redfish. The Indian River Lagoon does it again! 4/13/11

Had Mike, Kathy and Nathan on the bow of the boat today in search of redfish and trout.  We fished the Indian River Lagoon and the bite was on.  Mike and Kathy both caught a nice slot sized redfish with there son Nathan who caught a nice 25inch trout.  In the last ten minutes of our trip Mike made a cast and hooked this nice 45inch red that took him on a hour and forty minute fight.  If your interested in booking a trip you can reach me at finandflycharters@gmail.com, www.finandflycharters.com or call (321) 652-5903.

The Atlantic does it again!!! 4/9/11

Ran two trips today, the first one was with Gene and Dick for snook and redfish at the jetties.  I met Gene and Dick at Sunrise Marina this morning and headed out south to catch are bait for the day.  After we caught our bait we headed straight back to the jetties.  Today was a little crowded on the jetties, but that didn't bother us at all, we had the secret bait...pogies!  We didn't even have our bait in for five minutes when Gene hooked a nice 34inch redfish followed by Dick hooking and landing his first snook.  By the end of our trip Gene had landed four nice over slot redfish and Dick landed two upper slot redfish along with one snook.  My second trip was with Doug and Andria Childs from Apopka.  Doug was referred to me by a good friend of mine Capt. Scott Lum.  Doug and Andria had never caught a cobia before so that's what are main targeted specie was for the day.  I had my other good friend Chesnee mate for me today to help keep and eye out for the cobia.  We headed south and cast netted our bait and kept heading south fishing the bait pods on our way down.  The first fish of the day was a six foot black tip shark, that took Doug for a good run.  two hours went by and still no cobia.  I started heading back north when Chesnee saw something strange out in the distance about a mile away.  It looked like white caps from a boat wake, but there was no boats around us at the time so we started heading towards it when what we thought was a wave from a boat was actually a pod of two hundred tarpon rolling and blasting on pod of minnows.  Everyone was super excited.  We baited all the hooks with live pogies and threw out the lines.  It wasn't long till Doug hooked into about a 100 pounder that took him for an hour fight.  Once we landed Doug's fish I noticed something strange looking trailing behind the tarpon, it was cobia! Doug, Andria and myself casted at them hooking into two of them.  Doug had about a 30 pounder on and Andria had on a 15 pounder.  Doug tired his fish out first but the hook pulled when we were about to gaff it.  Andria fought her's for another ten minutes when I was able to gaff her's into the boat, she was really excited.  We started heading back north to port when we came across another cobia that was stubborn as all get and wouldn't bite.  At the end of our trip Doug and Andria went home with some nice cobia for the dinner table.  If you are interested in booking a trip with me you can reach me at finandflycharters@gmail.com, www.finandflycharters.com or call (321) 652-5903.

Snook fishing with the Slow N Low Girls 4/3/11

Had a call from a friend of mine asking me if I could take some girls that work at slow n low out fishing, I said sure.  So the next morning I met up with Annette, Lauren, and Mary at Port Canaveral for some snook fishing.  We headed south out of the port looking for bait and let me tell you there was bait pods everywhere!  I had Annette drive the boat for me while I threw the cast net.  There was so much bait that when I threw the net the bait fish were swimming the net up to the surface.  Once we got the bait into the live well we headed back to the mouth of the port to start fishing.  The bite at first was a little slow but gradually pick up.  Lauren was the first one that hooked up, this snook was a slob but after fighting it for ten minutes the hook pulled.  Lauren then hooked into two more snook landing one nice one that was in the upper to over slot range.  About twenty minutes later Annette hooked up with a nice snook and landed it.  Mary on the other hand just layed around trying to get a nice tan.  The following day I took Chessnee and his girl friend Tina out for some snook.  We landed two nice snook and also caught a nice 12pound tripletail. Indian River Black Drum and Trout 3/30/11

Had Greg and Ron on the bow of my boat today celebrating Ron's birthday.  The two brothers are local Florida boy's that love throwing artificial's.  We started out our day searching for tailing redfish.  We found ton's of tailing fish but they were be very stubborn today. Greg was able to hook into a nice slot fish but after fighting the fish for a couple minutes the hook pulled.  As I poled us along the shoreline I noticed out in the deeper water little tails were popping up.  Greg casted in the general area where I saw them hooking into his first black drum on artificial.  Towards the end of our trip we headed out to deeper water to catch some trout.  The trout bite was awesome and both Greg and Ron caught a handful to themselves.  If your interested in booking me for a fishing trip you can reach me at finandflycharters@gmail.com, www.finandflycharters.com or call (321) 652-5903.  Enjoy the photo's.

Turkey, Snook, Redfish, and Cobia Madness 3/19/11

Well to start it all out, today was opening day of turkey season.  I took a good friend of mine Matt Badolato to my secret spot at Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area.  We got set up in the blind around 6:15a.m. and waited for sunrise. When the sun came out I started making hen yelps, clucks, and purrs on my primos jackpot slate call.  Around 8:20a.m. we had two turkeys come into the decoys, both were males, so Matt and I both raised our 12 gauge shotguns, counted down from three and fired at the two turkeys.  Both turkeys went down.  We were so excited.  This was my 4th Osceola turkey and Matt's 1st.  About a minute later we heard our buddy Charlie Broughton shoot a turkey just a little further down from us.  When we left Bull Creek I noticed the conditions were ideal for cobia so I called my dad and my friend Chesnee Cogswell to see if they wanted to go out in search of cobia.  We launched out of Port Canaveral around 2p.m. and headed 20 miles south.  A hour into the fishing we came across a ray that had 4 cobia on it.  My dad casted the live croaker at the ray hooking into his first cobia that weighed around 30 pounds.  We came across 3 other rays and Chesnee and I were able to fill our limit of cobia on the boat.  As we got back into the mouth of the port, I stopped at the jetties to see if there were any snook or redfish biting.  Are baits weren't in the water more than 5 minutes and my dad hooked into a nice slot snook.  Then Chesnee caught a snook.  15 minutes later Chesnee and I doubled up on redfish.  We fished for another 10 minutes and then headed back to the ramp.  Today was a awesome day to spend outdoors and if your interested in booking a fishing trip with me you can reach me at finandflycharters@gmail.com, www.finandflycharters.com or call (321) 652-5903.  Here is also a article about our turkey hunt, just click on the Florida Today.  Enjoy the photo's!!!
